Government has asked Parliament for2.3 trillion shillings to meet expenditure on more than 20 development projects in the Ministry of State in the President’s Office - Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) in Financial Year 2020/21, TPJ can report.

Presenting his ministry’s budget totaling 7.01 tri/-, Minister SulemaniJafo told Parliament that the government has allocated 32.50 bn/- for construction of three wards to each district council’s hospital in the country in a move meant to decongest hospitals and to improve health services.

The minister stated that 27bn/- would be used to construct district hospitals for Karatu, Chalinze, Kondoa, Kongwa, Mbogwe, Biharamulo, Ndimbo, Kigoma, Kakonko, Liwale, Serengeti, Sengerema, Mbeya, Kilombero, Kaliua, Babati, Mvomero, Newala, Madaba, Kwimba, Msalala, Ikungi, Handeni and Mkinga. Other beneficiaries would be the town council of Tunduma as well as the municipal councils of Sumbawanga and Tabora.

According to the minister, a sum of 32.50 bn/- is earmarked for procurement of modern medical equipment and supplies to enable district hospitals offer good-quality services.

Furthermore, Mr. Jafosaid 275.03 bn/-,which will be released under Road Fund, has been allocated to support construction and or repair of 23,531 kilometres of roads, 80 bridges, 2,052 culverts, as well as water drainage systems with a total length of 79.9 kilometres.

Mr. Jafo also went on to specify that 186.8bn/- has been allocated for the construction of 70km of roads in Dar es Salaam City at tarmac level, as part of Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project.

He added that the Government also planned to use 26.10bn/- for the construction of classrooms at 184 primary schools countrywide.

A total of 129.71 bn/ has been allocated for renovation and or construction of administration buildings in 100 councils while 1.35bn/- would be used for construction of offices for district directors and heads of department in nine district councils.

The ministry also set aside 4.48bn/- for procurement of 54 vehicles for regional commissioners and regional administrative secretaries; 8.36bn/- for procurement of 38 vehicles for administrative services.
