President John Magufuli has cautioned officials against accepting flimsy excuses from contractors seeking to justify delay in the completion of a secondary school construction project in MjiniMagharibi in Zanzibar.

Addressing a public rally after unveiling the foundation stone for construction of Mwanakwerekwe Secondary School,President Magufuliexpressed doubts over the explanation that heavy rains and scarcity of sand were the reasons behind the six months’ delay in completing the 2bn/- project.

The President, who was in the Isles to take part in activities marking the 56th anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution, said he had enough experience in the construction sector to know that sometimes contractors inventedexcuses when they failed to deliver projects on time.

“The contractor should have known beforehand where to source the sand and also about weather conditions,” he said and called upon the Isles ministry of education to entertain no more excuses that would seek to justify further delay in the project which was to be completed in August 2019 but had its completion date rescheduled to March 2020.
