Finance and Planning Minister, Dr. Philip Mpango has revealed that as of November 2019, the Government had cleared suppliers’ claims amounting to TZS 443.90 billion; TZS 172.84 billion for service providers and TZS 1.67 trillion was released to offset contractors’ claims.

 Mpango revealed this in a statement released recently during his end of year briefing on the state of the economy and preliminary assessment of implementation of the budget for the first half of Financial Year 2019/20.

 “I would like to reassure suppliers, contractors and service providers of Government’s commitment to continue to offset immediately all outstanding claims upon verification,” said the minister.

 Furthermore, the minister said the Government had during the year continued to ensure all major projects implemented in the country gave priority to local labour force and utilize locally produced materials such as cement, pipelines and electric poles.

 He added that between July and November 2019, development expenditure amounted to TZS 3,150.9 billion, equivalent to 61.7 percent of the set target.

 According to Dr. Mpango, development funds were channeled towards implementation of major projects such as the standard gauge railway, Julius Nyerere Hydro Electric Power Project, Ubungo Interchange, Selander Bridge and Kimara to Kibaha Highway.
