The Procurement and Supplies Professionals and Technicians Board (PSPTB) has continued its bid to improve the efficiency of procurement personnel in various areas of the profession by turning its attention to personnel working in the capital city, TPJ has learnt.

This time around PSTB has worked to address procurement and supply chain management challenges facing practitioners in procurement contract management for goods and non-consultancy, during training which took place from 6 to 10 May 2019.

Speaking with TPJ shortly after one of the training sessions, PSPTB Ag. Executive Director, Mr. Godfred Mbanyi, said the Board essentially develops specific interventions to bridge knowledge gaps identified among to procurement and supplies practitioners and that it is part of the board’s professional development strategy.

“For the strategy to produce intended objectives, each professional should see value in continuous professional development so that they seize training opportunities whenever they eventuate in their area,” Mr. Mbanyi said adding that, while the board develops various short courses tailored to upgrade professional knowledge and skills in various aspects and disciplines, it is the responsibility of each professional to grab the opportunities.

According to Mr. Mbanyi, the workshop in Dodoma covered procurement contract management including risk management, challenges and mitigation measures, procurement contract dispute resolution, contemporary issues and case studies.

The five-day training drew more than 52 participants from both private and public institutions, including members of the tender board, heads of department, contract managers, contract officers, procurement managers, supplies managers, project managers, planning officers, procurement officers, supplies officers, auditors, suppliers, and any interested parties.

TPJ understands that the role of the Board is to oversee and regulate the practice and conduct of procurement and supplies professionals and technicians in the country the board works to ensure all registered professionals maintain requisite competence and skills based on current practice, legislation and techniques.
