The Government has paid about 200bn/- to 2,048 contractors who implemented successfuly their procurement contracts countrywide, TPJ can report.

Speaking during the Bunge session last week in Dodoma, Deputy Minister for Finance and Planning, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji, said a total of 1,277 contractors and service providers who served the regional secretariats and 771 at who served the ministries, institutions and government agencies,were the beneficiaries of the government action.

According to Dr. Kijaji, after verification of claims, TZS 3,729,605,175 was paid to service providers and contractor at the regional secretariats and TZS, 195,334,409,791.64 to others making a total of TZS 199,064,014,966/64 and that Government was going to settle all legitimate debts, depending on the availability of funds.

The deputy Minister called upon all contractors to cooperate with the government on verification of their claims by providing the correct information in time as they are asked to.

Dr. Kijaji also informed parliamentarians that there were various parameters used in verifying the claims amongst which are how long the debt has existed and if it has been verified. She added that the second criterion was the interest rate for the debt.
