Construction of new offices for the government at Ihumwa in the capital city is about to be concluded with at least a sum of TZS 50bn having been spent by both contractors and individuals working on the project.

This came to light during a visit of the Prime Minister Kassim Mjaliwa when the Minister of Planning and Planning, Dr. Philip Mpango, briefed him on the project.

“The project, which involves the construction of various offices for ministries, has benefitted contractors and citizens in this area,” Dr. Mpango said adding that  contractors have benefitted through construction tenders while ordinary citizens have been able to get jobs and engage in various businesses.

The Prime Minister commended the good job, saying he was delighted to see much progress had been made and noted that the Ministry of Finance and Planning building had reached 99 percent of completeness.

The premier also instructed the contractor, the National Housing Corporation (NHC), to immediately work on some challenges and shortcomings that were identified during the inspection, including  the entrance, “a job that must be completed immediately, before the official opening of the offices.”

It is understood that President John Magufuli is expected to officially open the new offices soon whose construction commenced on December 29, 2018.
