The Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Investment, Angela Kairuki, has challenged women to utilize procurement opportunities available in local government authorities, TPJ has learnt.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam recently at a gathering for Women Empowerment Forum Tanzania, Mrs Kairuki noted that women have not been actively participating in tender opportunities that exist by virtue of the law which demands that procuring entities set aside at least 30 percent of their procurement budget for special groups, including women.

“You need to be active and find up tenders opportunities from your respective councils and compete for provision of [for example] goods and services,” the minister said, adding that women can also participate and compete for government tenders that are regularly published on the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority website.

Mrs Kairuki further said that the government would keep doing its best to create a conducive environment for business so as to allow more women entrepreneurs to participate and improve their living standard.

For her part, the event organizer, Sara Laizer, said the event which was attended by over 200 women entrepreneurs,  was essentially a networking platform for goal-driven women and was meant to empower women entrepreneurs in business, corporate world and investment.
