Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the recently constructed Sirari customs centre in Mara Region and has summoned its contractor to his office in Dodoma to explain the shortcomings observed.

Mr Majaliwa, who was on a working visit in Mara Region recently was dismayed to see various flaws, including cracks, when he inspected the centre which is located in Tarime District at the border with Kenya.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office after the visit said Mr Majaliwa was unhappy to notice that construction of the centre had been so poor that numerous cracks on the walls and floor of the building could be so evident hardly three years after construction was completed.

“The Government cannot tolerate such shoddy works, I hereby direct the commissioner of Tanzania Revenue Authority who oversaw this project to come to my office on January 25, 2018 accompanied by the contractor,” the statement quoted Mr Majaliwa as saying.

The statement added that the TRA official and the contractor whose name was not revealed, would have to produce all relevant documents regarding the project to facilitate determination of appropriate action against the culprits behind the shoddy works.
