Magufuli ruvu juuPresident Dr. John Magufuli has launched a major water project and called upon the Ministry of Water and Irrigation to keep a close eye on all projects whose implementations are running behind schedule.

Dr. Magufuli made the call in Kibaha, Pwani region, recently when launching a project for expansion of Ruvu Juu water treatment plant meant to improve water supply in Dar es Salaam and Pwani regions.
“You must organize yourselves well to oversee implementation of projects that are running behind schedule,” said the President.
According to a statement issued by the directorate of presidential communication, the project, which includes laying of water pipes from Mlandizi to Dar es Salaam, will cost the Government 200 billion/- being a soft loan from the government of India.
The President hailed the Indian government for the support and said the project would go a long way towards improving accessibility of water to many Tanzanians.
India’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Mr. Sandeep Arya, said his government had approved a loan worth about 500 million US dollars to Tanzania for implementation of various water projects across the country.
Speaking at the same venue, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Eng. Emmanuel Kalobelo, said expansion of the treatment plant is one of the strategic projects aimed at addressing water woes in Dar es Salaam, Kibaha, Mlandizi and Bagamoyo.
He said the projects include expansion of Ruvu Chini, digging of deep wells at Kimbiji and Mpera as well as construction of Kidunda Dam and are meant to increase production of water from 300 million to 750 million litres come 2020.
